Mosaics are appearing everywhere!!!!!!!!

There is a lot of new housing development going on in the suburb of Brompton around Green Street.

Years ago there was a considerable sized allotment that was home to the Green Street Community Garden.

It was a place where locals could come and tend a small plot of land and grow fruit or herbs or vegetables.

It fostered a sense of Community and involvement and was an opportunity to learn from others.

There was also a plant propagation nursery, and plants were sold at very reasonable prices.

Community Gardens are sadly being squished like bugs, as land becomes a priority for development.

The big developers move in and make plans to provide high density housing, and make a fortune no doubt. In this area, an old stalwart "Snowy" wouldn't budge when his site was almost "bumped" out of the area.

He held firm for the Community Garden staying in some form in the area. Even though "Snowy" has moved to the big garden in the sky, or the very warm one down below some would argue....... there is - a small Community Garden still at Green Street Brompton.

With the trend of new developments giving people postage stamp size backyards, which frankly suits some of the population, but there are others who like their hands in the dirt, a little room to move, and like the opportunity to grow food for themselves, Community Gardens are valuable and able to satisfy those needs.

So a much much smaller version of the Green Street Community Garden exists next to the Community Centre, and there are many many double storey homes rising from the dust that once was green.......

Council or the developers... I am not sure which... yet..... have incorporated some sculptures in the vicinity.... so it can't be all bad can it fellow mosaic lovers....... ??????

Nothing to do with the Community Gardens.... but mosaics none the less, and standing on the area that once was somewhere I volunteered for a time......

There are no plaques anywhere in the area to tell me who the artists are, but as soon as they are installed I will update this information.

I am happy to see mosaics in all forms appearing everywhere.... These mosaics are striking, and very urban in design and appearance, but I guess I would have gone with a softer style, a more botanically based mosaic to soften and "pretty-up" an area which is pretty much all bricks and fences, and concrete....... Maybe it is because the trees and people's gardens are not established yet...it seems a little stark and hot, and maybe it is the gardener in me, seeing value in green foliage and blooms that capture your attention......

When I started walking back to the car, some "tradies" were standing there laughing as they posed in an exaggerated manner like models for a photographer.... wanting me to take their photos..... They told me there was another grouping of mosaics nearby........ more later..... off to find them too..... :)
